Keep it simple

For beginners, we recommend starting with a basic three step routine—cleanse, moisturize, and apply sunscreen. Of course, this can be modified, and products can be added depending on your individual skincare needs. For example, if you’re struggling with acne, you may consider adding a spot treatment. No matter the case, the core three steps remain as the foundation of a successful skincare routine.

While it may be tempting to buy a lot of skincare products, keeping your routine simple will avoid overwhelming your skin. Plus, limiting your skincare routine can help you save money and avoid wasting products.

Determine your skin type

Determining your skin type is one of the first stages in developing a skincare routine. The needs of various skin types must be catered for by skincare products. Compared to dry skin types, who require thick, rich moisturizers, oily skin types may be more concerned with mattifying substances.

One easy way to determine your skin type is to observe your skin throughout the day. Is your skin shiny and oily by lunchtime, or dry and flakey in the morning? Whatever the case, these characteristics are indicative of your skin type.

As dermatologists, we classify skin into four main types:

I was shocked! I discovered a way to enjoy my morning coffee and fight the extra weight that was keeping me from seeing myself the way i wish!

What I love about it is that it is natural, Vegetarian, Non-GMO, Gluten free... Perfect for everyday use!

I felt a boost in my metabolism and amazingly, I didn't feel that much hungry as before!

Oily skin: Skin that is overly oily and appears glossy.
Skin that is dry and flaky in spots and may feel constricted.
Skin that is sensitive usually has red, inflamed areas that are uncomfortable to touch.
Having both greasy and flaky patches, combination skin has both.

Steps to follow

Once you know what sort of skin you have, you can focus on finding the right products and avoiding the wrong ones. Finding products that will work for you is made simple by the fact that many goods list the types of skin they’re best for on their labels. Here are six steps to create a skincare regimen for beginners.

Step 1: Choose a cleanser

A cleanser gets rid of the bacteria, oil, and grime you come into touch with throughout the day or when you’re sleeping at night. This is the most important stage in your program. Cleaning your face will help you have fresh skin at the beginning or finish of the day. Additionally, since your face won’t be covered in any dirt or particles that could affect how products are absorbed, you’ll be able to get the most out of the products you apply after cleansing.

While patients with dry skin should opt for hydrating cleansers to assist repair the skin’s moisture barrier, patients with oily skin should look for foamy cleansers that remove excess oil and pore-clogging germs.

Step 2: Find the right moisturizer

Your skin requires hydration in order to replenish the water it loses throughout the day. Moisturizers with ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid may provide your skin with the healthy moisture it needs to remain smooth, supple, and youthful-looking.

Even if you have greasy or combination skin, moisturize. In reality, your skin may produce more oil to compensate for a lack of moisture, which can result in clogged pores and breakouts.

To give your skin the moisture it requires, we suggest using the following moisturizers:.

Step 3: Don’t forget about sunscreen

We see that many patients only use sunscreen when it would seem to be appropriate to do so, such as on sunny days at the beach. However, it’s crucial to use sunscreen every day. You’ll lessen your risk of developing skin cancer as well as the signs of photoaging, such as wrinkles and dark patches.

It is simple for you to receive the necessary sun protection without having to purchase additional products because many moisturizers and cosmetics feature SPF. Make sure the recipe has broad-spectrum SPF 30 or greater whether you get your protection from stand-alone sunscreens or from cosmetic products to guarantee you’re as protected as possible.

There are many sunscreens on the market that can provide safe sun protection. Some of our favorites include:

Step 4: Pull it all together

Once you have everything you need, you should put it all together into a morning and nightly routine. When it comes to skincare, consistency is crucial, so be sure the regimen you develop will be one you can adhere to consistently every day.

Everybody has a distinctive type of skin, so every skincare routine is unique. For instance, if you have dry skin, you might want to wipe your face with water instead of a cleanser in the morning. If you have oily skin, you could also decide to moisturize your skin only at bedtime. If you have any inquiries regarding creating a regimen, speak with a dermatologist.

Step 5: Give your routine time to work

If your skin doesn’t improve immediately after starting your new routine, don’t give up. Try to stick with your regimen for at least six weeks if you want to see the most obvious benefits. This is roughly how long it takes for your skin to go through its entire cycle of producing new skin cells. You can start to notice the effects of the products you’ve been utilizing once this cycle is finished.

Step 6: Consider routine enhancers

After setting up the foundation, you can gradually add more products to your routine as you see fit. You should address any skin issues you want to fix at this step of your routine. This could involve redness, acne, or lackluster skin in general. There is no need to add more products to the mix, though, if you’re satisfied with the outcomes of the three-step process.

Below are three of our favorite routine enhancers that can be used to target specific skincare needs.

Toners

Toners are a broad category of products that can be formulated to serve many different purposes. Some toners address redness, while others target signs of aging or work to balance the skin’s pH level. All toners remove the dirt and oil that lingers on your skin even after cleansing. Applying a toner after cleansing your skin preps the it for moisturizers and other products that follow.

Exfoliators

Exfoliating the skin helps address issues like acne and dullness by removing old skin cells. Chemical exfoliants use a variety of ingredients, including alpha-hydroxy acids, to dissolve the chemical bonds holding old skin cells to the young ones beneath them. Physical exfoliants work by manually dissolving these connections with abrasive particles to exfoliate the top layer of skin.

Acne treatments

Using topical treatments including ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can help you experience fewer outbreaks and have your acne heal more rapidly. Use these treatments as soon as you have cleansed your skin. Always make a plan before utilizing these treatments. The majority of acne treatments must dry for at least 5 to 15 minutes before you can move on to the rest of your program.
